What Is Biodynamic Farming?

Biodynamic vs. Organic

Biodynamic = self-sustaining.
Biodynamic agriculture was created in response to a request by farmers (1924) who noticed degraded soil conditions and a deterioration in the health and quality of crops and livestock resulting from the use of chemical fertilizers. (source: Wikipedia)

Now, Organics according to Wikipedia are: those products that are produced using environmentally sound methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, do not contain genetically modified organisms, and are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical additives

So this fixes the problem, right?
Well yes, but not as well as Biodynamic farming.

This new type of farming places emphasis on the recycling properties of an ecosystem. This means that the products of the ecosystem (manure, excess crops, etc.) are being returned to the same ecosystem (earth) as sustenance to revitalize the soil for the next season's crop production. These "home-grown" fertilizers are specifically cultivated to ensure they have all the proper nutrients for the soil to bring it back to life.

Smell the Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a little known aid to the body's both emotional and physical well being. Tied with the likes of Massage, yoga and acupuncture; these little oils are stronger than you may think.

Extracted from all different parts of the plant, they come from petals, roots, twigs, fruit resin, leaves, buds & wood or bark and more. Considered the most concentrated of substances, aromatherapy oils carry powerful traits that are beneficial to your entire being and absorbed one of two ways...

A. As an Aroma (n.) Inhaled (v.)
Inhaled through the nose and mouth, the oils activate pleasant feelings, memories and responses. This ultimately stimulates either euphoric or sedative chemicals in the brain that provide beneficial mental and emotional effects.
B. Through the skin (n.) Absorbed (v.)
When massaged into the skin, the oils are absorbed deep into the skin's inner layers and furthermore into the blood vessels where they are carried around the body to organs, glands and tissues.

Either way, when you use these oils you can see benefits related to: overall relaxation (lavender), muscle tension or stress(ylang ylang & eucalyptus), insomnia (grapefruit & lemon), tissue function & immunity (tea tree & myrrh), blood & lymphatic circulation (frankincense), improved mood (bergamot)...and more.

Add it to your next facial during the month of August free of charge. Experience the difference in your day with Aromatherapy.

Beat the Summer Heat!

Looking to beat the summer damage on your hair? Sante stylists have put together a quick list of tips to help keep your hair looking great, check it out...
  1. Tap first. Chlorine will turn blond's green, dry out even the healthiest of locks and fade the rest of you. Before getting into chlorinated water, saturate hair with tap water to prevent hair from soaking up chlorine.

  2. Tap after. Rinse your hair after you're done swimming in tap water. The faster you get the chlorine out the better.

  3. SPF your hair. Sunlight can be just as damaging to your hair as it is to your skin. Use products containing SPF or UV protectant to help prevent your color from fading. We recommend Lanza Swim & Sun Shampoo and Conditioner with SPF 30.

  4. Wet hair stretches, dry hair shrinks. Avoid pulling wet hair into a tight ponytail because when it dries you'll find a lot more damage than you started with. Instead go for a braid or a loose bun to avoid breakage.

  5. Treat it nicely. Apply a deep conditioner once weekly with a plastic cap for 10-15 minutes to hydrate and strengthen your hair. We recommend Moroccan Oil products including the Restorative Hair Masque, Moroccan Oil Hydrating Mask and Glimmer Shine Spray (with SPF). Don't have time to make it to the store? Let a little olive oil sit on your damp locks to give your hair a quick pick me up.
Happy Sunbathing!
